(BEATLES) JOHN LENNON - LOVE, JOHN LENNON: handwritten text and original drawing on cardboard - New York, 1978 - 15 x 12 cm - 2800 euro Piece of roughly cut beige cardboard, 15 x 12 cm, EMBELLISHED BY HAND in black feltpen by JOHN LENNON. The scrap shows the handwritten text LOVE, JOHN LENNON 78 plus an original self caricature. PROVENANCE: Made by John Lennon in Rupert Jasen Smith’s studio, Soho, New York, around Christmas time 1978. Rupert Jasen Smith (also Andy Warhol’s master silkscreen printer from 1974 until the artist’s death in 1987) was working on a project called YOKO ONO AS MONA LISA, an exclusive silkscreen created by John Lennon, a work not commonly known as there were just a handful of copies made as a present for his wife Yoko Ono. John Lennon was there to supervise the final printing and while waiting for the results he killed time by making silly texts, doodles and drawings on any material on hand, like scraps of paper, pieces of cardboard, paper bags and even porcelain plates; encouraged by a third person who luckily happened to be at the right place at the right time. A number of similar pieces made during this session were sold at succesful auctions in Tokyo (Bonham's, 1997) and London (Christie's, 2000 and 2002). Further details available on request.

Promo copies all came with a promo sticker on the front, a lips-and-tongue-logo-sticker with track-listing on the back. This rare item has been finely SIGNED BY ANDY WARHOL in black feltpen on the front. Good copy, with innersleeve, showing the usual light damage (nothing severe) to the vulnerable die cut front, some heavier imperfections to the spine. Ignoring the utterly rare MONO promo issue, this is as CLOSE as one can get to Warhol’s original art work. For more fine signed items by ANDY WARHOL, please click HERE.

ROLLING STONES - Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones Records Germany, 1971 - 30 cm vinyl record in or. sleeve (design: ANDY WARHOL) - 85 euro Vintage German presssing of the album in the famous zipper-sleeve made after a design by Andy Warhol; one of the landmarks in the history of pop album sleeve design. ROLLING STONES - Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones Records Holland/Germany, ca. 1980 - 30 cm vinyl record in or. sleeve (design: ANDY WARHOL) - 50 euro Later Dutch presssing of the album in the famous zipper-sleeve made after a design by Andy Warhol; one of the landmarks in the history of pop album sleeve design.
